Is Masonry “Built to Last?”

The first book (and the only so far) in my section entitled Mike’s Bookshelf  discusses Jim Collins’ book Good to Great. At the end of the article I mention that the Northern Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite has been printing articles discussing Collins’ concepts in The Northern Light. The May 2010 issue contains comments by Sovereign Grand Commander John Wm. McNaughton, 33rd about another work of Collins Built to Last. Illustrious Brother McNaughton’s thoughts entitled Who You Are” can be found as our most recent guest article.

One of the statements made in his article is this:

“We have reached a point in our history where we must be proactive and no longer reactive if we are to enjoy a Masonic future.”

He then asks the following question:

“For whom does our fraternity exist? Is it for the leaders or its members?”

If you are concerned about Masonry’s future take a moment to read and think about what Illustrious Brother McNaughton has said in his article. Give serious thought to Who You Are and if “who you are”  is not what will contribute to the Fraternity’s future then maybe it’s time to work on it.
